If you are a parent I think you would agree that raising your children is one of the most challenging feats that you will ever undertake. From the grueling routine of bottles and diapers, to the times in the restaurant that you know everyone is wishing you would pack your family up and leave! It is on this thought that I want to ask the question, what could Jesus have meant when he said in Matt 10:15 that whosoever didn't receive the kingdom as a little child would not enter in (paraphrased)?
I do believe that he is talking about the level of faith that children have. I can tell my 3 and 4 year olds that we are going to drive to China and the only question that would be asked is, "when will we get there?" They trust everything that I say. And to that end they are pretty much being molded into the image I present to them. Jesus is saying that we must be totally dependent upon the father and put our faith in him as a child would his parents.
However, I was trying to get my 3 year old to eat dinner today before he went into the family room to play and I believe I caught a greater glimpse of receiving the kingdom as a child. My three year old was so focused on his "Thomas the Train" that he didn't want to eat, sleep or talk. When I told him that he would have to eat his dinner before he could play, he did. As a matter of fact he did nothing more or nothing less. He ate his dinner and then asked to go play.
I believe so many times we get caught up in the distractions of this world and forget that God wants up to desire the kingdom as a little child would his favorite toy. We should do whatever it takes to enter than kingdom and keep our eye on that goal with tunnel vision. It would do some believers good to have that "Thomas the Train-like faith!"
